From an inscription on a wall in Lecce, “God is violent…! And He is harassing me”, Luisa Muraro conducts a ruthless analysis of the use of violence and on the meaning it assumes in a society where the life-saving narrative of the social contract has failed. In a political practice that condones private use of public things, the spread of corruption and the logic of profit, continuing to think that the State has the sole right to use violence and that we should submit to it is an act of surrender and a sign of intellectual blindness. Since politics is still and always the search for a free existence, citizens and especially women – who are also subjected to a sexual contract of subjugation and abuse – have to face up to those in power by declaring they have not relinquished the use of violence, demanding an alternative narrative to the social contract.
